James Shelley heads Western University’s Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS) Lab. This network, established in early 2020, serves as an interdisciplinary hub for the study of complexity and system scholarship at Western University, bridging every faculty on the campus.

He serves as AI in Research Facilitator for the Office of Research Services, where he develops, evaluates and refines enterprise AI systems, focussing on excellence and efficiency in research processes. His work involves coordinating pilot activities and leading user engagement initiatives to ensure effective adoption of automation and AI tools in research. An autodidact at heart, James is endless fascinated by complexity theory, information science, automation, and the history of ideas.
