Michael Lawrence
Michael Lawrence is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Cascade Institute (CI) at Royal Roads University, where he leads the Complexity Education for Action project, which integrates complexity thinking into multiple levels of education to better address the global challenges of the twenty-first century. He has published several CI policy briefs on COVID-19 recovery in relation to a Green New Deal, global inequality, and the risks of economic depression. 

His broader research interests include the application of complex systems thinking to the study of world order, to the dynamics of drug wars, to risks of societal collapse and to various issues of conflict and security. At the University of Waterloo, Michael will instruct the advanced graduate seminar GGOV622 Complexity and Global Governance in Fall 2021. Michael holds a PhD in Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs and has been a longstanding collaborator of WICI.
