Roger White is Honorary Research Professor in the Department of Geography, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and since 2007 has also been affiliated with the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) in Mol, Belgium. He has been a visiting professor at several universities in Europe and North America, and more recently held the E.T.S. Walton Visiting Professorship in ICT at the Urban Institute Ireland, University College Dublin. He has been a consultant at Los Alamos National Laboratory and an invited researcher at the Santa Fe Institute, both in the United States. He was also for a number of years Visiting Professor and Senior Scientist with the Research Institute for Knowledge Systems (RIKS) in Maastricht, The Netherlands. His research involves the use of algorithmic techniques such as cellular automata (CA) and agent based modelling to understand the structure, functioning, and evolution of geographical systems; the CA based models of urban and regional systems have been used in a number of countries around the world. His numerous publications include the recent book Modelling Cities and Regions as Complex Systems: From Theory to Planning Applications(MIT Press).
