In the Winter 2024 term, April Pereira travelled to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to collaborate with Dr. Wendy Rogers on a research project closely aligned with her graduate work at the University of Waterloo. April’s research explores cognitive aging and distributed memory across humans and external agents. During her time in Illinois, she deepened her expertise by studying how older adults interact with and distribute memory functions through the use of domestic robots.
Working alongside Dr. Rogers, an expert in both behavioural and engineering research, April was exposed to innovative methodologies that enriched her approach to interdisciplinary research. The opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Rogers and her team not only strengthened April’s research skillset but also allowed her to build meaningful professional connections that will support her academic and professional development.
