Award description:Up to two AIMS Entrance Scholarships, valued at $10,000 each per year for up to two years, will be awarded annually to graduate students who will be registered full-time in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Recipients must have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences and will be selected on the basis of academic excellence and a demonstrated interest in research. Scholarships will be awarded primarily to students entering a doctoral program in the Faculty of Mathematics.

Eligibility & selection criteria: 

  • Applicants must have completed or expect to complete in the next year, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from AIMS and have applied to the MMath or PhD program in the Faculty of Mathematics
  • Minimum cumulative of 80% in most recently completed program
  • Students must maintain a minimum average of 80%
  • Students must show satisfactory progress during their program
  • A progress report must be completed annually by the student’s supervisor and approved by the Department Graduate Officer and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, in the Faculty of Mathematics
  • Recipients can concurrently hold other awards
