Award description:
The Waterloo.AI GRADflix awards, valued between $500 to $2,000, will be awarded twice each year to select graduate students who presented their research in the field of artificial intelligence in the Waterloo.AI GRADflix competition. Selection of the first, second, third and fourth place winners will be made by an adjudication panel consisting of four representatives from Waterloo.AI Industry Partners. The people’s choice winner will be selected by the audience. Winners will be selected based on a combination of communication, creativity and visual impact and technical quality.

The five awards will be:
- One 1st place: $2,000
- One 2nd place: $1,250
- One 3rd place: $750
- One 4th place: $500
- One people's choice: $500
Eligibility & selection criteria:
- Domestic and international graduate students registered full-time in a master's or doctoral program who are presenting their research, in the field of artificial intelligence, in the Waterloo.AI GRADflix competition. Students who completed their degree but have not yet convocated, are eligible to participate.
- Award can be held in addition to minimum funding and in conjunction with other major awards.
- The video submission should not infringe upon or violate any laws or any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights and must not constitute material that would be considered libeling, defamatory, a privacy violation, tortious or a contract breach.
- Selection of the first, second, third and fourth place winners will be made by an adjudication panel consisting of four representatives from Waterloo.AI Industry Partners. The people’s choice winner will be selected by the audience. Winners will be selected based on the following criteria:
- 50% communication
- 30% creativity and visual impact
- 20% technical quality
- Previous finalists who did not win the first-place award are eligible to compete again if the video submission is materially different, as determined by the Managing Director, from that of their previous submission.
- The Waterloo.AI GRADflix will be hosted semi-annually, July and January.
- Award will be distributed as a one-time payment and applied to the student’s account in Quest.
- Recipients are only eligible to receive the award once over the course of their program.

Additional instructions:
Students must be willing to allow their video to be made public and provide a photo and short biography if selected as a finalist. Their photo and biography will also be made public.
