Award description:
An award, valued at $1,800, will be provided annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in the research-based Master’s program in the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts. Selection is based on academic excellence (minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent) and a demonstrated interest in gender studies from a historical perspective, which includes (but is not limited to) such related topics as women’s history, history of masculinity, gender and society, gender and the state, and/or scholarly engagement in gender theory or concepts of gender as a social construct. Selection will be made by a committee in the Department of History without the need for an award application. This fund is made possible by a generous donation from Rex Lingwood, in memory of his wife, Wendy Mitchinson, former Professor of History at the University of Waterloo.

Eligibility & selection criteria:

  • Full-time graduate students enrolled in the research-based Master’s program in the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts 
  • Selection to be based on academic excellence (minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent) and a demonstrated interest in gender studies from a historical perspective, which includes (but is not limited to) such related topics as women’s history, history of masculinity, gender and society, gender and the state, and/or scholarship engagement in gender theory or concepts of gender as a social construct.

  • Department of History will identify candidates and select recipients normally each Fall
