An award, valued at $4,500, will be provided annually to a third- or fourth-year undergraduate student or a student enrolled in a graduate program within the Faculty of Engineering (excluding the School of Architecture). Selection will be based on academic excellence combined with the pursuit of an international co-op placement or internship that is providing minimal pay.

This award has been established by family and friends in honour of Frederick W. Bent (October 30, 1968 - September 29, 2003) to provide assistance to students enrolled in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science programs. Fred graduated with honours in 1994, with a Master's in Mathematics, Computer Science. He went on to become a successful executive for a local firm before his untimely death. He will always be remembered for his quick and dry wit, his sense of honour, his kindness and selfless generosity.
A scholarship, valued at $5000 will be awarded annually to a full-time University of Waterloo master's/doctoral student registered in the Chemical Engineering program in the Faculty of Engineering.
