Leadership announcement
The Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) will continue to be led by a familiar face starting in July 2025.
Professor Justin Wan has been appointed to a one-year term as Interim Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, beginning July 1, 2025. Justin is currently serving as Interim Co-Associate Vice-President alongside Professor Clarence Woudsma. With Clarence completing his term, the University extends its thanks for his many years of service and contributions to graduate education.
“I would like to thank Clarence for his contributions as Interim Co-Associate Vice-President, GSPA, and for his years of service in administrative roles at the University. I wish Clarence continued success in his career,” shared Dr. James Rush, Vice-President, Academic and Provost.
In his upcoming term, Justin will continue advancing key GSPA initiatives, including improvements to graduate recruitment and admissions, workflow automation, and graduate work-integrated learning. He will also begin acting on recommendations from the recent review of the Associate Vice-President portfolio, helping shape the future of graduate studies at Waterloo through collaboration across campus.
These leadership appointments will provide continuity and momentum as the University prepares for a formal search for the next AVP, GSPA under the incoming Provost, Professor Thomas Duever.
“I would like to thank David and Justin for their commitment to their respective portfolios over the years, and the pivotal impact they have made on the University through their leadership in these administrative positions,” Dr. Rush added.
