President Goel meets with graduate students to discuss Waterloo at 100
On Monday, October 17 a group of University of Waterloo graduate students met to discuss "What do we as an institution aspire to become by our 100th anniversary in 2057?," as part of the President's Waterloo at 100 consultations. The students applied to be part of the discussion and were chosen based on which futures framework they most identified with, as well as their status as a student (PhD, master's, program, terms to completion, etc.). All students were briefed on the Waterloo at a 100 discussion paper (pdf).
With a wide variety of students from varied backgrounds, the conversation was engaging as the discussion focused on these specific themes:
-
Societal futures
-
Technological futures
-
Sustainable futures
-
Health futures
-
Economic futures
Ideas were noted and shared via brief presentations for the President, by each group. The President's Office will use the information from these consultations, along with ongoing dialogue with the university community to create a plan for the University's vision at 100.
