Nominations now open for UWSA President and Board of Directors
The University of Waterloo Staff Association (UWSA) is the independent voice of staff at Waterloo. The UWSA advocates for staff interests, provides opportunities for staff to connect and engage with the University community, and works to cultivate a workplace where staff feel supported, empowered, and able to thrive.
The UWSA election nomination period is now open, and staff are invited to consider helping shape the future of the association by running for a leadership role. The UWSA Governance and Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for three directors and the next president, to begin a two-year full-time secondment in the role in November 2027.
Directors and the President shape the future of the UWSA and represent staff interests at Waterloo. Whether your interests are in governance, advocacy, strategy, leadership, or building community, you may have valuable skills and perspectives to contribute.
Staff who are interested in learning more can attend an information session on September 9 or 15 to hear from current UWSA leaders, learn about the roles, and ask questions. Staff are also encouraged to recommend colleagues who would be strong candidates.

What does it really mean to walk the talk when it comes to equity and belonging?
Recorded during 2026 Pride Month at the University of Waterloo Libraries, this Pride Roundtable brings together voices from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community for a candid conversation about turning awareness into action. “Walking the Talk: The Actions That Speak Louder” explores the systemic barriers activists and community members continue to navigate — from microaggressions and everyday prejudice to often-overlooked forms of intersectionality.
Panelists reflect on the role of activism in challenging these barriers, what meaningful equity looks like in practice, and how stronger, more connected 2SLGBTQIA+ communities can be built through action.

Temporary pedestrian detour at Davis Centre Tim Hortons entrance
The Math 4 project is proceeding with another delivery of electrical equipment required to power the new building. During the September 10 delivery, the Tim Hortons entrance of the Davis Centre (DC) will experience temporary access restrictions.
To safely unload and lift the equipment into the construction site:
- The delivery truck will stage next to the DC Tim Hortons entrance, reducing the walkway width in this area.
- A crane will be positioned to lift the electrical equipment over the staging zone and into the site.
- A fenced pedestrian detour will guide building users around the staging area while maintaining access to and from the DC Tim Hortons entrance.
- Signage and on‑site personnel will support safe movement through the area.
Building access will remain available throughout the operation, but pedestrians should expect narrowed pathways and minor delays while navigating the detour.

When and Where
The Campus Wellness Student Medical Clinic offers healthcare visits with Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to current undergraduate and graduate students. Services include: vaccinations, immunity testing, naturopathic services and more. Counselling Services offers appointments with counsellors in person as well as via phone and video. Students can book appointments for these services by calling Campus Wellness at 519-888-4096.
The privately-run Student Health Pharmacy (located in the lower level of the Student Life Centre) is now offering new COVID booster shots and flu shots. Covid booster shots are available by appointment only – please call ext. 33784 or 519-746-4500. The Student Health Pharmacy’s summer hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Naloxone kits are still available – pick them up in the pharmacy at no charge.
The Waterloo Eye Institute optometry clinics in Waterloo and downtown Kitchener offer comprehensive eye exams and eyewear, including glasses and contact lenses, with the Waterloo location offering various specialized services including urgent eye care. Discounts apply for University of Waterloo students and employees. The Waterloo Clinic is at a nearby interim location, 419C Phillip St, during construction at the School of Optometry and Vision Science. The Kitchener Clinic remains at the Health Sciences Campus, 10B Victoria St. S. Book online or by phone at 519-888-4062.
