Botanist position with WSP/MMM group

WSP is currently seeking a Botanist/Biologist to join our Ecology department and to be located in our Kitchener, ON office. Reporting to the manager, the position will be responsible for a variety of projects related to baseline studies , impact assessments, and assist with environmental management for resource development and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

Undertake botanical field investigations, including, but not limited to:

  • Detailed botanical inventories
    • Ecological Land Classification
    • Forest Ecosystem Classification
    • Targeted Species at Risk surveys and assessments
    • Wetland and other feature delineations;
    • Interpret and assess species and habitat conservation status, interactions and sensitivities;
  • Assist in proposal writing, study design and implementation;
  • Perform background research and analysis, including consultation with government agencies;
  • Assist with quality control of field data collection;
  • Assist with data analysis and management;
  • Work within a team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of staff;
  • Field work and occasional travel is required;
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Ecology, Biology, and/or other Biological Science;
  • 5+ years of related experience;
  • Experience in the collection and analysis of field data including inventories, data organization and management;
  • Experience working in ecosystems within Ontario;
  • Willingness to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations and outside standard office hours;
  • Experience with the natural heritage policies of the Provincial Policy Statement, Environmental Assessment legislation and regulatory acts;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team environmental and under deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and organization skills,
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills;
  • Highly developed computer skills with Microsoft including Excel, and Word;
  • Current First Aid certification is an asset
