Crowe Valley Conservation Authority in Marmora is hiring two students for the benthic monitoring program this year. The job posting is attached. The deadline to apply is **April 13th**. Students who really know the OBBN protocol well and can work with very minimal to no supervision is ideal.
POSITION: Assistant Water Resources Technician (7 week contract) – two positions available
LOCATION: Crowe Valley Conservation Authority Office in Marmora, Ontario
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Collection and analysis of benthic data using the Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network protocol
-Surface water quality sampling
-Data entry
-Other duties as assigned - we like to put your existing skills and talents to good use, if you are good at something, whether it be painting, mapping, creating beautiful fact sheets or photography, we'll be happy to work with you to create a fun side project
QUALIFICATIONS:
Our positions are funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry under their Summer Experience Program. All successful applicants must meet the following criteria:
-Currently enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Environmental Sciences, Ecosystem Management, Fish & Wildlife, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Technician, Geography or related field.
-Between the ages of 15 and 24, or up to 29 with a disability
-Valid driver’s license and eligible to work in Canada
Apart from the essentials, it’s a bonus if you:
-Have a sense of humour and an interest in benthic invertebrates
-Are certified under the OBBN network
-Are able to work with minimal supervision and take pride in your work. We love creative ideas and people who take initiative
-Thrive in working outdoors in adverse environmental conditions (the blackflies will come for you)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
-Duration: 7 weeks
-Start Date: May 1st, 2018
-Rate of Pay: $14.00/hr
-36.25 hours per week
