Abstract:

Hybrid quantum repeaters require optical interfaces between photon sources, transmission channels, and quantum memories that may operate at different wavelengths. This seminar presents four-wave-mixing frequency conversion in warm cesium vapour as an interface between nanowire quantum-dot photon sources and cesium quantum memories. Continuous-wave conversion from 895 nm to 794 nm and the telecom wavelength of 1469 nm is demonstrated, with a maximum optical-power conversion efficiency of approximately 15% at 1469 nm. Pulsed and weak-coherent-pulse operation are also investigated toward operation with quantum-dot photons. The role of frequency conversion in reducing transmission loss is considered, along with the remaining requirements for integrating these components into a hybrid quantum repeater.
