Electrical and computer engineering (ECE) MASc student, Miswar Syed, is the recipient of the prestigious 2023 IEEE Power and Energy Society Outstanding Student Scholarship Award.
Supervised by ECE Professor Mehrdad Kazerani, Syed is a member of the IEEE, a Student Energy Fellow, a member of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE), and a TEDx speaker. He has received multiple awards and is a passionate researcher interested in the areas of renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, and ammonia. He is a published author and has presented at international IEEE conferences in Australia, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, Saudi Arabia and India. In his young career, Syed has had the opportunity of working for Fortune 500 companies as well as startups in the clean energy space. An inventor and co-founder of a cleantech startup himself, he believes startups will play a crucial role in achieving a successful transition to clean energy.
