Wojciech Golab

Wojciech Golab joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an Assistant Professor in September 2012, and is interested in distributed computing. Upon completing his B.Sc. at the University of Toronto in 2002, he was awarded the Governor General's silver academic medal. He then received a M. Math degree from the University of Waterloo in 2004, and a Ph.D.

Prof. Weihua Zhuang and her collaborators have won a best paper award at the IEEE-ICC 2012 conference, as have Prof. Guang Gong and her co-author Qi Chai. See more details on page 5 of the conference newsletter.

ECE Professor, Shesha H Jayaram and Chitral J Angammana, who completed his PhD under her supervision in 2011, have been honoured with the IEEE James R. Melcher Prize Paper Award 2112, for the technical excellence displayed in the paper, entitled, "Analysis of the Effects of Solution Conductivity on Electrospinning Process and Fiber Morphology". It recognizes the best Electrostatic Processes Committee papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications. The authors received the award during the 2012 Joint Electrostatics Conference in Cambridge, Ontario, June 12-14, 2012.

Prof. Omar Ramahi has been awarded a 2012 Technical Achievement award from the IEEE EMC Society.

Christopher Backhouse, an electrical and computer engineering professor, has been appointed the new director of Waterloo's nanotechnology engineering program.  His term runs from May 1, 2012 to April 30, 2015.  Backhouse will succeed current director Marios Ioannidis of chemical engineering.  

The research of electrical and computer engineering professor Sherman Shen has been recognized with two best paper awards. Shen and his research collaborators in Japan received the 2012 Best Paper Award at the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference for "End-to-End Delay in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks with Generalized Transmission Range and Limited Packet Redundancy." The conference was held in Paris, France, April 1-4. Shen and his doctoral students Y. Liu, L.X.

Christopher Wilson joined the ECE department in 2012 as an Associate Professor. He has a joint appointment with the Institute for Quantum Computing. He received his B.S. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996. There he performed undergraduate research on the role of nonlinear dynamics in the nervous system. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Yale University in 2002.

Peter M. Levine

Peter M. Levine joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an Assistant Professor in March 2011 and is Principal Investigator of the Bioelectronic Systems Laboratory. He received the B.Eng. in Computer Engineering and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in 2002 and 2004, respectively. In 2009 he received the Ph.D.
