The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the Renison community and our ability to provide our programs in the traditional face-to-face format. Throughout this experience, the safety and wellbeing of our students, instructors, and staff will always remain our most important priority.
Our team is busy re-imagining our language programs for delivery in a virtual, online format. Our goal is to ensure you continue to build your language skills while maintaining the high quality learning experience you expect from a Renison language program.
Academic language programs
This fall, we will offer our Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) and English For Academic Success (EFAS) programs virtually through an online format.
We remain committed to providing quality English language instruction through a vibrant virtual learning experience and to helping you meet the English language requirement for the University of Waterloo, in order to continue in your degree studies.
In both of our academic language programs, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with experienced instructors and other students in a small, virtual classroom community.
You will be able to enjoy a combination of:
- Real-time class instruction with quality curriculum
- Pre-recorded instructional videos that you can rewind and play repeatedly
- Online instructional activities to ensure you are engaged in your learning
- Individual feedback about your work directly from your instructors during regularly scheduled timeslots
Short-term language courses
This August, we are excited to launch our new virtual Essential Soft Skills in English courses. Essential Soft Skills in English courses will help you develop important soft skills to contribute to both your academic and long-term career success. These soft skills, and the ability to apply them in English, are becoming increasingly important in the global marketplace and within higher education around the world. This program is for you if you want to improve your English, and add the skills that employers are seeking to your resume! Learn more on our Essential Soft Skills in English website.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer our General English at Renison (GEAR) program or blended IELTS preparation course this fall.
Engage in a vibrant online student experience
In addition to the virtual classroom community, students will be able to participate in virtual student engagement opportunities, including online social activities specifically designed to practice your conversational English with enthusiastic Peer Leaders, and regular workshops that will help you develop your skills as a successful student.
Current, past, and prospective students are welcome to join our weekly events by visiting our Virtual Events webpage. Each month, our students can expect to enjoy a dynamic events calendar that features workshops, social events, conversation practice opportunities, and chances to build your networking and soft skills.
At the Renison English Language Institute, we are committed to working together to provide you with quality language instruction and helping you achieve your goals. Even though most of our classes will be online, you will be part of a warm community of people who will be dedicated to helping you succeed.
