The Department of Geography and Environmental Management offers graduate diplomas, course-based programs and research programs that help students gain a deeper understanding of the world around us. Our graduate students are given an education that prepares them in the private, public and third party sectors.
Competitive funding packages
Funding packages are available for incoming geography graduate students who meet certain levels of academic merit and apply by the application deadline.
Research opportunities
Geography conducts research in four geographical themes; Climate change and environment, Economy and Society, Earth system science and Geomatics. Graduate students in our research programs have access to numerous lab, equipment and research support. Read more about our research areas.
Work-integrated learning
Students in the Master of Climate Change have the option to gain real-world work experience with a 4-month internship.
Collaborative program options
Students in our Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Science (MSc) programs have the opportunity to complete the Collaborative Aeronautics Program (CAP) through the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics.
Students in all our research programs can complete the Collaborative Water Program, coordinated and supported by the Water Institute.
