Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA)
Needles Hall, second floor, room 2201
Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) is hosting the PhD Candidacy Workshop and Celebration. GSPA recognizes the importance of milestones in all PhD students’ journeys, and we are exceptionally eager to celebrate accomplishments and to support students as their focus changes throughout their academic career.
This event is exclusively for PhD students who have recently completed comprehensive exams, qualifying exams, or equivalent milestones in their program. In addition to celebrating their success, the workshop portion of this event will cover tools they need in the next phase of their graduate studies, including managing large writing projects, productive writing techniques, and best practices with supervisors and committees. Attendees of the workshop will also have the opportunity to pick up a small gift at the event.
Previous attendees have praised the thoughtful advice from UWaterloo staff and other PhD students participating in the workshop, saying that it offered invaluable practical guidance for the next stage of their graduate experience, as well as a sense of support and community to help them move forward.
PhD candidates are invited directly to this event. For more information, please contanct

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
