About the Workshop

In this workshop, Dr. Shalhoub discusses and answers the following questions:

  • What is eye strain? What causes eye strain and eye strain symptoms?
  • Tips for avoiding and coping with eye strain
  • Setting up your workspace and screen to avoid eye strain
  • When is it more than simple eye strain (symptoms to be concerned about)?
  • When should you see your optometrist?
  • Do you need binocular vision testing? What would that involve?

About the Facilitator

Dr. Julie Shalhoub, School of Optometry and Vision Science

Julie Shalhoub is a Clinical Lecturer at the School of Optometry. She practices mainly within the Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy department. Julie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph and subsequently earned a Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry. Following graduation, she completed a residency in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Waterloo, she was an Assistant Professor at Southern College of Optometry.
