The Office of Indigenous Relations works collaboratively on and off campus to advance the goals of the TRC Calls to Action, creating a long-term vision for the University, grounded in decolonization. The Office of Indigenous Relations had an extremely successful start and has built strong relationships across campuses. In the spirit of collaboration, the Office continues to advance transformational change in University structures and community.
Areas of focus during the first three years:
- Establishment of an Indigenous Advisory Circle
- Relationship building on and off campus
- Identifying gaps, barriers and strengths
- Supporting cluster hire of 10 Indigenous faculty
- Supporting incoming faculty
- Assisting units to strategize and hire Indigenous staff across the institution
- Creating an Indigenous Employee Resource Group and building a supportive Indigenous community at the University
- Launched a fundraising strategy with the establishment of the Indigenous Opportunities Fund
- Conceptual development of visual storytelling
- Consultation and advisory on Indigenous issues
- Education on the Office of Indigenous Relations services and support
- Working closely with WISC to identify and build supports for Indigenous students
- Helping the University to identify and dismantle structural barriers for Indigenous Peoples
