Funding priorities for 2026 and beyond
Looking forward, we aim to build on the foundations that have been laid since the inception of the Office of Indigenous Relations in 2020 and the decades-long work that came before.
As we move ahead, we think about the future generations of Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, staff and faculty that will join the Waterloo community and remain committed to our vision of an institution that is rooted in decolonization, reconciliation and Indigenization. As outlined in the growth opportunities throughout this report, there is much work to be done, and we are looking forward to another year of momentum and progress. Such progress is made possible only with resources and financial support.
Your generosity will support the work of the University of Waterloo Office of Indigenous Relations through special projects, meeting unforeseen needs and enhancing the teaching and learning environment. It will also support the work to make Indigenous histories, cultures and languages visible on campus through Indigenous-led programs, activities and events.

Preparing for the path ahead
As we reflect on the momentum created and milestones achieved in 2024-2025 at the University of Waterloo, we remain determined and committed to the vision of a safe, welcoming place for Indigenous staff, faculty and students and advancing the TRC’s Calls to Action. Together, we have achieved great progress in advancing the efforts of truth and reconciliation at Waterloo and for that we must thank our Elders, partners, sponsors, community members and all who collaborated with OIR over the last year. We know that we are strongest when we move and act as a community united in shared values.
