Project update
The IT Asset Management (ITAM) Selection Project team is happy to announce that the first phase of the IT Asset Management Selection project is complete and that GLPI has been recommended and approved as the centralized ITAM solution. GLPI is an open-source IT Asset Management solution with flexible permissions, a well-supported plugin framework, a very active developer community and a large selection of available plugins.
Next steps in the project
The project team will now continue with phase two of this work. This will document follow-up projects, define training, develop change management documentation, and develop support requirements for the solution. The estimated timeline for this phase is three months.
GLPI available for early adopters
The solution has been deployed and is available for early adopters. For those who are interested in being an early adopter, please contact Ryan Goggin (ryan.goggin@uwaterloo.ca). Be aware that this will be an evolving platform without formal institutional support until the conclusion of the second phase of this work.
What is the impact on existing IT Asset Management / Inventory systems?
There is no impact on existing systems. Groups are welcome to continue using their existing systems. Information Security Services (IST-ISS) will be looking to collect and correlate data from IT asset data sources such as Faculty and departmental inventory systems.
