Rankings

The University of Waterloo participates in a number of international and national ranking programs. These include Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU), Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), and Times Higher Education (THE) suite of university rankings, the national Maclean's University Rankings, and more targeted ranking programs like Research Infosource (research and development) and Pitchbook Universities (start up funding).

What we do

Institutional Analysis and Planning plays a vital role to support Waterloo's participation in these ranking programs. We analyse ranking submission methodology, co-ordinate and consolidate submission data from a range of campus stakeholders, and complete the ranking submission. Once ranking results are available, we review the data to ensure it is correct, analyse the results, and share our understanding of results and any changes with Waterloo governance and leadership bodies. This work also involves working closely with ranking organizations to clarify methodologies used and understand requirements, assessment processes, and any changes. Additionally, IAP leads a rankings steering group comprised of Waterloo stakeholders that makes recommendations to senior leadership on rankings-related process changes and strategies to improve rankings outcomes in alignment with University strategic goals and objectives.
