The University of Waterloo participates in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) every three years (since 2004).
NSSE is administered by the Indiana University Centre for Post-secondary Research to undergraduate students in their first-year and graduating year. The survey measures the degree to which students are engaged in their academics and other educationally purposeful activities.
The following University of Waterloo’s results are available below:
- The Engagement & Benchmark Reports compare Waterloo’s performance to our peers in each of the 11 engagement indicators (beginning 2014) and the five NSSE benchmarks (2004 to 2011 only).
- Frequencies Report provide counts of each response as compared to our peers.
In 2013, a new version of the survey was launched. Updates were made to the survey instrument, summary engagement measures and structure of the reports. Prior to 2013, NSSE provided engagement scores in five different benchmark categories. These have now been expanded into 10 engagement indicators.
