Jennifer Morgan, Manager of International Agreements recently attended the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) 2019 annual conference, November 17 to 20, in Winnipeg. This annual conference is the major Canadian venue for conversations around Canadian international education. It brings together educational administrators and government officials from all over Canada, as well as international delegations.

Trade Mission from Taiwan

A delegation of ICT companies, led by the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, visited the University of Waterloo on Thursday, November 14. Talks focused on industry-university research collaborations, in particular,  identifying challenges industries face, that can be solved or identified by university engagement, in cost effective and efficient ways.  Participants from Waterloo included representatives from Waterloo International, Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, the Faculty of Engineering, Global Entrepreneurship and Disruptive Innovation (GEDI) and the Office of Research.

Visit of National University of Singapore

A representative from the National University of Singapore met with Waterloo International and the Student Success Office to discuss supporting existing collaborations on student exchanges between both institutions. Waterloo remains committed to educating students to succeed in a global economy.

Associate Provost, Institutional Data, Analysis, and Planning Allan Starr, and his team welcomed representatives from Japan's University of Tsukuba, to explore future collaborations on experience-rich education, co-op programmes and supporting student start-ups.

CALDO Executive Director Visit

Representatives from each of our six faculties, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) and Renison College, recently met with the Executive Director of CALDO consortium, Rodrigo Delgado, to share goals, common strategic priorities, achievements, expectations, and future plans. For many Latin American students, CALDO acts as a gateway to connect with Canadian universities. We look forward to continued collaborations with this organization.

Supporting existing and potential research collaborations and co-op opportunities between the University of Waterloo, and universities and industries in China were among the topics discussed, as Waterloo International met delegates from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto on Thursday November 7.

Vietnamese Delegation

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019 the University of Waterloo hosted a delegation from Vietnam. The visit highlighted the direction of UWaterloo for cooperation with Vietnam in the field of Science and Technology and to learn about training opportunities for their research and post-doctoral staff.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2019 we welcomed delegates from Brunel University London to The University of Waterloo to discuss present and future collaborations between our institutions.

The HBO-I Foundation Visit

The HBO-I Foundation is an association of IT educators from a number of post-secondary institutions in the Netherlands. Twenty-five members of the foundation visited the University of Waterloo on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 to learn about IT education and career development so as to explore potential improvements to their pedagogy and infrastructure for IT education in the Netherlands. While on campus several people from various campus units and departments shared insight with the group: Co-op Education, WatPD, CEL, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Math and Engineering.
