Are you interested in knitting? No matter what skill level you are, the Library Knitting Club always has a spot for you! Started in January by two of our library colleagues, Steph and Hannah, the club hosts a knitting event every other week for anyone who likes to knit, crochet, talk or just enjoy a cup of tea. Read below for more information!
Why should I join the Library Knitting Club?
- Craft activities such as knitting can offer long-term health benefits.
- Knitting is a good exercise. A person burns about 150 calories per hour by knitting.
- A great mental break while socializing with your colleagues.
Who can join the Library Knitting Club?
Anyone is welcome! If you are unsure about if you like the setting or the environment, no pressure at all! Feel free to drop in at a session first. You can come and leave at any time!
What do I need to bring to the session?
You are welcome to bring your own knitting project or you can join our group project.
We are currently working on the “Square of Care” project. This is an initiative organized by the Wellwood Resource Centre of Hamilton, where people knit squares that then will be stitched together to create blankets. These cozy and colourful creations will be distributed widely to adult and pediatric cancer patients.
I am new to knitting. What are the essential knitting tools that I should get?
Knitting needles and knitting yarn. Simple, eh? Reach out to Steph or Hannah for more tips for beginners.
When is the next meeting time & place?
Tomorrow, 12:00pm at Dana Porter staff lounge! There are other times and dates to choose from. Please reach out to Steph or Hannah for more information.
Happy Knitting!
