In celebration of Library Lovers month, uWaterloo Libraries is launching brand new Library Love button designs! Four collectable designs will be available starting on Monday, February 13th at any of our Library locations. In addition to releasing new buttons, the Library will also be launching the very popular Blind Date with a Book! In its third year running, Blind Date with a Book invites readers to take a chance on a book!
With titles ranging from sci-fi classics, horror, drama, contemporary, chick-lit, and fantasy there is sure to be a book for every type of reader.
Library Ambassador Karolina Kayko has written about her work on this special project:
"My name is Karolina and I’m a 4B Geomatics student here at UWaterloo. I was a Library Ambassador during the Spring 2016 term and have returned once more to work for the library for my final term. During the spring term, I worked with another ambassador on the Lego and colouring tables, along with the Lego building contest where students posted their creations to social media for a chance to win a prize. It was fun to plan and the students loved it too!
This term, I’m working on Blind Date with a Book as my self-directed term project. Blind Date with a Book has been successfully run around Valentine's Day for the last two years and has been a great way for the students to engage with the library. I chose this project because I read about the project online previously, and took out some of the books two years ago. I had so much fun reading all the clues and choosing books to read that I wanted to work on it as my term project for the winter!
Since the project has already been done before, I am taking over the previous process and documentation. I have already begun working with Circulation staff who have previously run the project. My role will take about ten hours to complete. I'm hoping to re-organize the clue templates for the process, and redesign the covers with the clues. I’d like to add some new books and clues to the list, too! I will pull the books for the project and help the Circ staff wrap the books up with brown paper and ribbon. I'm also hoping to include some chocolate hearts for the students on Valentine's Day! I look forward to the success of this project and working alongside library staff this term!"
