About the Map Library Assistants' Workshop

The 2013 conference is being organized by Sara Perkins of the Musagetes Architecture Library. Sessions will be held on both the main University of Waterloo campus and at the School of Architecture in Cambridge.

Objectives:

  • To provide an opportunity for Map Library Assistants to meet and establish a network of contacts with their counterparts and colleagues in other Ontario universities.
  • To provide an opportunity for Map Library Assistants to visit another Ontario University map collection, to compare and share procedures and practices of common interest.
  • To provide educational sessions, training and information relevant to the rapidly changing field of geographic information management, specifically aimed at Map Library Assistants' needs.

Participants:

  • This workshop is intended for Map Library Assistants and for any other library support staff who deal with geographic information working in Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) Map Group member institutions.
  • Job title is not important. Not every institution uses the description "Library Assistant". Any support staff member who works with geographic information, in any capacity, is welcome.
  • The session is not intended for map librarians, who generally have other educational and networking opportunities through the OCUL Map Group or through the Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives (ACMLA). The sessions will emphasize issues from the support staff perspective.
