Peace Scholar Positions Winter 2020

Each term, PACS is able to award a limited number of Peace Scholar research positions for MPACS students that aid and assist a faculty member at Grebel with a research project. The expectation is that the student will meet regularly with the assigned faculty member and carry out the agreed tasks. The positions will require approximately 30 hours of work over the course of the term for which a stipend of approximately $1000 is paid. Please see the email sent out by Seth on January 3, 2020 for details on the two available research projects.
If you are interested in applying to be a peace scholar, send Seth a letter indicating which research project is of most interest to you and why you feel you are qualified to accomplish the research tasks. Gettysburg is famous for the United States’ Civil War. Instead of letting violence have the last word, we will gather at this site to discuss peace and justice, and dare to imagine radical alternatives!

The Consortium of North American Peace Programs (CONAPP) invites proposals for the first undergraduate student-centered, peace and justice conference at Gettysburg College (Pennsylvania, USA), June 8 – 11, 2020. Call for Papers: (Re)settlement: Making Place, Making Space

Early Bird Deadline: January 15 (potentially eligible for funding)
Final Deadline: February 15

Crucial to many social justice studies and critical pedagogies are the acknowledgement of settlement, place, and space. Locationality and positionality form the foundation of our worldviews and our social, cultural, and political experiences. We aim to explore the nuances and complexities of settlement, place, and space in the context of settler-colonial societies through an intersectional social justice framework, and how to challenge systems of injustice that become established through place and space.

Intercollegiate Peace Fellowship Conference 2020

When: February 7 - 9, 2020

ICPF 2020 is being hosted by Eastern Mennonite University and is a student-led peace and justice conference for Peace colleges in the U.S. and Canada.
The 2020 Intercollegiate Peace Fellowship Conference theme is "Nothing About Us Without Us," encouraging participants to investigate whose voices are heard and whose are missing across a range of peace and justice issues.
When working for justice and peace, we want to talk about both the “what” of justice and peacebuilding as well as the “how,” asking questions like: who belongs? who’s in and who’s out?
If you are interested in attending, talk to PACS advisor Rachel about potential funding to support your attendance.
