What is happening?
MFCF is disabling screen sharing on managed macOS computers. Screen sharing allows remote access to the macOS console. MFCF has used this to facilitate machine management. Some people may use it for remote work.
When is this happening?
This is being done immediately.
Who is impacted?
This affects all macOS computers that are managed by MFCF. That includes staff, graduate student, and research computers.
This does not apply to any Windows computers.
What is the impact?
Remote access to machines will no longer be available by default and can only be enabled under restricted circumstances.
What do you need to do?
If you need to use screen sharing for remote access, you need to ensure your computer is running the latest version of macOS that includes the security fix for the vulnerability.
Open a request with MFCF to check your machine for the latest supported version of macOS before we enable screen sharing. Include an explanation of why you need screen sharing enabled.

Only a few managed macOS computers have updated to the latest release so we have to disable screen sharing to reduce the exposure from this vulnerability. Disabling screen sharing also eliminates exposure to similar vulnerabilities that are discovered in the future.
