With the spirit of someone who has forgotten that luck comes to those who work hard and prepare themselves, Nan Huang (BASc ‘15) credits good fortune for helping her succeed in her education and career. Nanotechnology Engineering alumni Samer Kurdi (BASc ’12) is participating in the 69^th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, which is taking place in Lindau, Germany, between June 30 and July 5, 2019.

The annual Lindau Nobel Laureate meetings focus alternately on physiology and medicine, physics, and chemistry – the three natural science Nobel Prize disciplines. This year’s meeting is dedicated to physics.

Farnaz Niroui (BASc ’11), who is now working as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is profiled here as part of the Nanotechnology Engineering program’s count down to its 15^th anniversary in 2020.

The Nanotechnology Engineering program is pleased to welcome 2018 Loran Scholar Lauren Prophet to the class of 2021.

Engineering 7’s dynamic new meeting space provided the perfect setting for the Nanotechnology Engineering Capstone Design Symposium. The event, held on March 22, gave twenty-two teams of fourth-year nanotechnology engineering students the opportunity to present their Capstone Design projects to potential employers, industry representatives, faculty, family and friends.

Mina Labib (BASc ’13) moved halfway around the world to pursue his Nanotechnology Engineering degree and now travels around the world  installing Angstrom Engineering’s Physical Vapor Deposition and Chemical Vapor Deposition systems, making sure they work as requested and training researchers how to use and maintain them.

A team of keen NE 100 students took advantage of some new course material and used their Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modelling skills to compete in a NASA-sponsored design competition.

Congratulations to NE alumnus Moin Ahmed (NE Class of ’16) whose team, Membio, won $25,000 in equity-free financing at the Velocity Fund Finals in November. Moin Ahmed, who went on to earn his Master’s of Chemical Engineering at UWaterloo, and Shane Kilpatrick, who recently earned his Master’s of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology at UWaterloo, formed Membio to develop their scalable biological manufacturing platform.
