Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Students from Dr. Marlene Epp`s Refugees and Forced Migration class ran an information exhibit about refugee issues. This event showcased experiential learning projects by students. There was also local performances and great food. All proceeds raised were donated to the Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support (MCRS).

The students were able to raise $1000 for MCRS. This was increased to $2000 through a matching donation and topped up with $155 from the sale of food bringing the total to $2155 for MCRS!

The student poster presentations were all well received by visiting students, faculty, staff and members of the larger community. The students touched upon a variety of topics surrounding refugees such as, refugee sponsorship in Canada, family reunification, seeking asylum and mental health in refugee children. In addition, the Waterloo Collegiate Institute group, Crossing Borders, gave meaningful performances through story, song and dance.

The event was written about in the Kitchener-Waterloo record. To read the article, click here
