The PACS department is delighted to announce that 12 PACS students have been selected from over 100 applicants to present at the upcoming CONAPP Conference!

If you wish to attend as a participant and to support our students please contact Rachel (rreist@uwaterloo.ca). We will be organizing group transportation to and from Gettysburg if there is enough interest. Please email Rachel by Friday, March 13 to express your interest.

PACS Networking and Job Search Skills Workshop

When: March 20, 3pm
Where: CGR room 4224

The Centre for Career Action will be facilitating this workshop on networking and career search skills. This is great opportunity to refine your ability to make connections with professionals and practitioners in the field of peace and conflict studies. Undergraduate studies is about more than just academic work; it's also a chance to connect and collaborate with people who will be key to securing a career after school.

This workshop will be approximately 90 minutes long and includes graduate students.

Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) 2020/2021 Internship

Applications due: March 31!
Start date: September 7, 2020


Each year CPJ's public justice internship program provides one recent university graduate with the opportunity to explore the meaning of public justice. For one year, from September to August, the intern assists CPJ in our work at our Ottawa office. The intern works with senior staff and is actively engaged in a variety of work, including research, policy analysis, framing public policy options, presenting to Parliament, meeting with MPs and political staff, as well as engaging the media, leaders in society, CPJ members and the Canadian public.

Encounter KW Food Justice

When: Fall 2020
Application deadline: March 31 (early bird), July 31 (Final deadline)


Encounter KW is an introductory experiential learning course open to anyone who wants to explore what it means to be a socially responsible and active citizen, starting right here in KW. This year’s program on Food Justice will challenge you to engage with academic material in a hands-on way, introduce you to community members and organizations that are working to address often marginalized issues, and invite you to explore your own role in personally responding to issues of food justice in our community.

This program will take place in the Fall Term 2020. It includes regular classroom instruction and a 5 day Reading Week experience with SJU's local community partners from October 13th to 17th 2020

Operation Groundswell Experiential Learning Funding Opportunity

Volunteer Camp Counselor

When: August 16-22


The Teresa Group is looking for camp counselors for their summer camp which runs August 16-22. The Teresa Group is an organization which supports families living and affected by HIV/AIDS. This would be a great opportunity for students who are looking to gain experience working with children aged 9-17.

HIST 232/ PACS 203: A History of Peace Movements

When: Spring 2020 ONLINE
Professor: Marlene Epp


This course will introduce you to peace movements from ancient Greece to the present day worldwide. Case studies vary from the Olympics, to resistance movements in World War II, to the civil rights movement, to mass action against nuclear weapons, to the contemporary environmental movement. Learn about diverse goals, tactics, philosophies, and symbols adopted by groups responding to conflict with nonviolent ideas and action. The course format includes songs, videos, readings, reflection activities, and more.

  • transitional support to University/ culture
  • Academics
  • social and relationship concerns
  • create a safe space for students to vent, feel heard, make plans, and come up with solutions
  • students can have one time support or weekly appointments (or a mixture of the two)
