Hello PACS Students,

I hope you are doing well at the start of the new term and are staying on top of your academic studies. The start of the term brings many new opportunities, and the PACS Department is excited to share with you some PACS- Related events.

MCC UN Seminar

The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) UN Seminar is dedicated to PACS students who would like to work on how climate change affects communities in political and peacebuilding affairs. This seminar will take place on September 30, 2021, at 9:00 A.M. and October 1, 2021, at 9:00 A.M.

The website and application are now live for the 2021 MCC UN Global Online Student seminar. Students can register online for this workshop here.

Note: The application deadline is September 20th, 2021. The registration fee is $20 USD from accepted participants.

PACS Scholarships 

The Peace and Conflict Studies Department has extended the deadline for scholarships application to Thursday, September 30th, 2021 at 4:30 P.M.
 

If you are enrolled in a PACS academic plan, you may apply for these awards in September for funding this year. To learn more about the available scholarships, click here.

Peace and Justice Fellowship

The Consortium of North American Peace Programs (CONAPP) is thrilled to introduce the Peace and Justice Transformative Leaders Fellowship!This unique opportunity identifies and amplifies the skills and visions of emerging, undergraduate peace and justice leaders. 

Selected fellows will be invited to Gettysburg College for an all-expenses-paid week of intensive programming designed to develop their leadership skills in the realm of peace and justice work. From January 8th through January 14th, 2022, fellows will meet with academics and practitioners to learn tangible skills and create their own social change projects with other PACS students from the US and Mexico.

PACS Bi-Weekly Coffee Hangout

PACS students - Looking to connect with other students in your field? Have any concerns about PACS courses and study tactics? Want to learn more about PACS opportunities?

There is a Bi-Weekly Coffee hangout that occurs exclusively to PACS students on every other Friday. This is a a hangout where students can talk to other students about their program, classes, and any PACS-related questions.

The Centre for Peace Advancement

  • Grebel Gallery Exhibit
    • The Grebel Gallery has reopened with "Not Traumatic Enough for a Shock Blanket". This is created  by artist Yasmeen Nematt Alla.
    • Grebel students are invited to come view the exhibit during regular office hours. More information click here.

Undergraduate Writing Groups

Need help honing your writing skills? Need help brainstorming ideas for an assignment? Need an opportunity to network?

The Undergraduate Writing Groups is available to you at your fingertips! This committee helps individuals by providing peer tutors to help other students with improving their communication skills to the next level.
 

Meetings work in two ways:

  • Microsoft Teams for our weekly writing sessions
  •  Individual check-ins on MS Teams throughout the week to help manage workloads

Fall 2021 dates and times:

  • September 15 to December 2, 2021
  • Wednesdays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Eastern
  • Thursdays from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Eastern

The UW Counselling Services offers a team of professionals that provides programming and services to help you lead a healthy and balanced life during this pandemic to help out students.
