Gerry Callaghan Receives Excellence in Service Award

You may have had the pleasure of hearing Gerry Callaghan speak at the Philosophy awards ceremony, where each year he kicks off the event with a series of Philosophical musings which are humorous, uplifting and celebratory. Prof. Callaghan spends the rest of the year coordinating our extended learning program. Over his career in the Philosophy Department, Prof. Callaghan has grown Philosophy’s online program and has provided invaluable mentorship to countless graduate students Due to Prof. Callaghan’s careful and dedicated stewardship of the program, Philosophy is one of only two Departments in Arts that offers an undergraduate degree entirely online.  

Prof. Callaghan has also served for over a decade on the important Faculty of Arts Examinations and Standings Committee, which considers student requests for exemptions to academic regulations. The Chair of the Committee praised him as "unjaded, careful, empathetic, and knowledgeable."

We are pleased to share that his excellence in service has been formally recognized by the faculty this year with this award.
