The Jackman Humanities Institute (JHI) is Canada's leading institute for advanced research in the humanities. At the University of Toronto, the JHI cultivates, sustains, and promotes humanities research across the University and beyond.
The JHI Faculty Research Fellowships are the primary way the Institute advances this mission. Each year, eight fellows spend 12 months in residence at the JHI, where they join the JHI Circle of Fellows—an intellectual community galvanized by the ideas and activities of its members, who also include distinguished visiting fellows, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students. Together, fellows advance knowledge that contributes to the life of the university, their fields and disciplines, and greater public life.
Histories of Science
Through a series of short-form videos, Professor Feke will bring up-to-date research on the history of science, and especially ancient science, directly to the public. Whereas academic scholarship relies on peer review, no such sorting mechanism distinguishes reliable from unreliable content on social media. This project aims to cut through the noise and share the actual history of science with a popular audience through a series of videos that explain the concepts, theories, and practices that featured in the sciences of the past.
