BICYCLE THEFT PREVENTION

The University of Waterloo Police Service is offering the following tips and strategies to prevent bicycle theft:

  1. Always lock your bicycle. 
  2. Never leave your bicycle unsecured even "Just for a minute"".
  3. Always use a good quality "U" lock. For added protection, pair it with a good quality cable lock.
  4. Always lock your bicycle to a proper bicycle rack.
  5. Lock your bicycle in well-lit areas.
  6. Lock your bicycle to racks in high pedestrian traffic areas, when possible.
  7. Do not lock your bicycle in the same area, a thief may notice a pattern.
  8. Record your bicycle details and keep it sale:
    1. Make, Model, Speed, and Serial Number on Police Services Serial Number Reporting Form online.
  9. Report any suspicious activity, day or night, to UWaterloo Police at: 519·888-4911.
