Nathan Fitzpatrick initially joined the Quantum-Nano Fabrication and Characterization facility in 2012, as the QNFCF cleanroom was transitioned from its temporary location in the RAC1 building to its permanent home in the Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum Nano Centre. In Nathan’s most recent role on the QNFCF team as the Nanofabrication Process and Characterization Engineering Manager, he led the “process group” staff who are responsible for equipment performance, advanced applications and technical consultations with lab members.
Nathan received a B.Sc in Engineering Physics and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta, with a specialization in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems and Nanosystems. During his graduate studies he studied micro fabrication, thin film deposition, thin film characterization, X-ray crystallography and nanodevice design. His thesis was on the design and fabrication of micro- and nano-cantilever sensors out of sputtered metal alloys for chemical detection.
