Content & Scope
The Animal Care Committee operates to fulfil the University's legal and ethical responsibilities concerning the use of live, non-human vertebrate animals in research and teaching. The committee is empowered to ensure that the quality and operation of its animal housing facilities, and the care and use of animals in research and teaching are in accordance with University, provincial, and federal guidelines. Any person(s) planning to use live non-human vertebrate animals in research or teaching must submit an Animal Utilization Project Protocol (AUPP) to the Animal Care Committee (ACC) for review and approval. All approved protocols are reviewed annually.
The records include Animal Care Committee agendas, minutes, and working papers, animal project protocols, protocol renewal forms, records of ethics approval or denial, documentation regarding informal or formal appeals of ethics decisions, animal use data forms, and related correspondence.
