The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies congratulates Sociology alumn Upama Poudyal on her essay being selected as "Highly Commended" in the "Social Sciences: Sociology and Social Policy" category of The Global Undergraduate Awards 2020 programme

The Global Undergraduate Awards is an international academic awards programme that recognizes originality, innovation, and excellence at the undergraduate level. It works to highlight the business leaders, influencers, and disruptors of tomorrow through awarding remarkable undergraduate research. Upama's work has been recognized as being in the top 10% of this category, which was open to all undergraduate students in universities, colleges, and institutes around the world.

Upama says: "Through the Critical Race Theory perspective, this paper analyzed the extent to which affirmative action policies succeed in their mandate to aid members of traditionally disadvantaged groups. Is it truly an effective policy? I look forward to sharing my analysis through publishing this work in the coming months… Thank you to my network, especially my colleagues at The University of Waterloo for the continual push."

Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment, Upama! We are so proud of you.
