The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies is proud to celebrate the achievement of Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley (PhD, Class of 2021), who has been awarded the 2024 CLSA English Article Prize by the Canadian Law and Society Association.
The CLSA English Article Prize is presented annually to recognize outstanding scholarly achievement and contributions to the field of socio-legal studies. Dr. Samuels-Wortley earned this distinction for her article, "The “Unusual” Suspect—Race, Class, and Crime: A Critical Discourse Case Study of Nova Scotia’s Mass Casualty Event".
Since completing her doctorate under the supervision of Dr. Owen Gallupe, Dr. Samuels-Wortley has gone on to serve as an Associate Professor at Ontario Tech University, where she furthers her contributions to the fields of criminology, sociology, and criminal justice.
