We are excited to welcome new additions to the UWSA Board of Directors as they bring their knowledge and skills to the table, while helping further the UWSA mission to represent the interests of UW Staff.
Stephen Markan, UWSA Chief Returning Officer presented the 2021 election report at the UWSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, October 28, 2021. The following candidates were successful in their bids for election:
- Agata Jagielska (President-elect)
- Courtney Bremer (Director for a three-year term)
- Priscila Carrara (Director for a three-year term)
The UWSA By-law, ratified at this year’s AGM, has changed our governance model. The new By-law moves the three UWSA Presidents (President-elect Agata Jagielska, President Dave McDougall, Past President Kathy Becker) into Operations roles. The 2021-2022 Operations Team includes:
- President: Dave McDougall
- President-elect: Agata Jagielska
- Past President: Kathy Becker
- Executive Manager: Gail Spencer
- Communications and Administrative Coordinator: Catherine Bolger
This change in governance creates three vacancies on our nine-member Board. Article 11 of the By-law stipulates that, in the event of Board vacancies, the Board of Directors shall appoint candidates to serve on an interim basis until the next election. Any member who has been considering becoming more involved with the UWSA is welcome to let us know by contacting the UWSA office.
The Board appointed Jane Arnem as Interim Treasurer, Michael Herz as Interim Secretary, Agata Antkiewicz as Interim Chair and Bill Baer as Interim Vice Chair. These interim appointments will be reconsidered when Board vacancies are filled.

Thank you to Kristen Deckert, the outgoing Secretary (2020-2021) and Selena Santi, Director (2020-2021) for their hard work and commitment to the Board. Our outgoing Past President Lawrence Folland served UWSA tirelessly for nine years and deserves special thanks for his service to members. Thank you also to Stephen Markan, Chief Returning Officer. Like last year’s online AGM, attendance was over 160 members, again creating a silver lining during ongoing COVID-19 safety precautions.
Finally, thank you to Yvonne McDougall-Brady, the UWSA Johnson Insurance rep, for once again generously sponsoring fabulous door prizes, worth $750. Congratulations to Krista Parsons, Mila Kaufman and Erica Clement-Goudy.
