The UWSA Appointments Committee is seeking two members to sit on a new University-level Pay Cycles Working Group, which will consider changes to pay frequency for UW staff. The Working Group will be advisory to the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC).
Term: December 18, 2023, to May 1, 2024
Seats: Two members at large
Deadline: December 10, 2023
What’s involved
The Pay Cycles Working Group reports to the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC). The Working Group’s mandate is to:
- Develop potential scenarios for shifting the frequency of pay for those paid on a monthly pay cycle to a more frequent pay cycle, weighing any disadvantages, risks, and benefits.
- Provide a summary review of one or more scenarios to PACSC.
- Seek stakeholder and operational input and feedback as appropriate (from HR, Finance, IST, for example).
The Subcommittee may seek guidance from subject matter experts where necessary and invite them as guests. The target date for completion of this work is May 1, 2024.
Qualifications
In selecting an applicant to recommend, the Appointments Committee will look for a strong focus on staff advocacy, critical thinking skills, and a perspective reflecting the diversity of voices represented at UW. Individuals who can share how the current (monthly) pay cycle negatively impacts newer and lower-USG staff may be prioritized.

Please submit the UWSA committee application form by Sunday, December 10, 2023. Please direct any questions to the chair of the UWSA Appointments Committee, Carly Richardson, at uwsa@uwaterloo.ca. Applications will be reviewed the week of December 11.
