In May 2024, hundreds of staff and faculty signed an open letter calling for (among other things) the employee associations at Waterloo and Laurier to “disclose and divest all funds and investments from all companies complicit in Israeli apartheid, occupation, and genocide.”

UWSA staff brought this to the attention of our Board of Directors, who voted in May to review our investments, which are all held at the Education Credit Union, a division of WFCU Credit Union, headquartered in Windsor, Ontario.

We would like to share with members that our money is solely invested internally in the credit union itself, used to issue loans and mortgages to other WFCU members.

According to the credit union, “any profit made by the Credit Union is shared with the membership in the form of competitive products, services, and interest rates, as well as in the communities [where] the Credit Union operates in Ontario. As such we do not invest in any external companies, whether locally or internationally.”
