UWSA seeks clarification on proposed pension changes

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

The University of Waterloo Staff Association Executive continues to review proposed changes to the Waterloo Pension Plan.  The effort, time, and commitment by the Pension and Benefits Committee to meeting the Government of Canada regulations have been remarkable.

The Chair of the UWSA Pension and Benefits sub-committee has written to the Board of Governors asking for a delay in the implementation of the proposed changes.  We are concerned over some equity issues for
lower-income employees and need additional time to confirm whether or not these concerns are valid.  We have engaged an independent actuarial consultant to advise us in this matter and are still awaiting their findings.

Armed with such additional vital information, we can continue working together to craft an equitable pension plan that will become a standard of excellence for our university.
