About AquaHacking

AquaHacking is a multi-stage hackathon with a focus on developing functional, marketable innovations to address Lake Erie’s water issues. Students with a passion for water, hackers, engineers, and other creative minds are invited to work together in teams over a 10 week period to develop technology that will positively impact Lake Erie.

The Institute for Polymer Research is hosting a seminar by Nicolas Kalogerakis, a professor of biochemical engineering and vice-president of the University Council at the Technical University of Crete in Greece. Professor Kalogerakis is presenting, "Bio-degradation of plastic debris in the marine environment: Any hope for clean oceans?"

As part of the Water Institute's WaterTalks lecture series, Janet Hering, director of the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science & Technology (Eawag) and professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne presents, "Linking Eawag’s Research to Policy and Practice."

Attend the AquaHacking semi-finals 

Join us on June 21, from 5-9 p.m. at the Centre for International Governance Innovation as aspiring water entrepreneurs pitch their solutions to problems facing Lake Erie. The five winning teams of the semi-finals will move on to compete in the final competition on September 13, 2017, where there's $75,000 in prize money available, in addition to access to local accelerators and mentors for winning teams.

In this Water Institute seminar, professor Sascha Oswald from the University of  Potsdam's Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences presents, "Detailed monitoring of microplastic particles in an urban water course facilitated by a novel, powerful detection method - an approach for identifying dynamic inputs of microplastics."

The 2017 Water Institute RBC distinguished lecturer, Quentin Grafton, will present Innovation, Incentives and Infrastructure in the Blue Economy as part of  Elsevier's fourth International Water Research Conference, hosted by the Water Institute. 

As part of the Water Institute WaterTalks lecture series, with Günter Blöschl, head of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management and professor of Hydrology and Water Resources at Vienna University of Technology, will be presenting "Emerging outcomes from a cross-disciplinary doctoral programme on water resource systems."
