Student privacy and independence
A key change in the transition from high school to university is student independence and responsibility.
Your student is responsible for managing many day-to-day tasks, as well as important administrative tasks with the university.
Parents and guardians are not granted automatic access to student information.
This includes finances, grades, health and student discipline. Some offices offer third party consent forms that your student can submit to grant you information access.
Who do I contact if my student is ill or injured?
If your student is unable to fulfill their academic obligations, they must submit a Verification of Condition form.
Who do I contact if I am concerned about my student’s safety on campus?
If you're concerned that your student may be experiencing an emergency on campus, contact UW Special Constable Service.
Review Identifying and Responding to Students in Distress (PDF) to determine what to do in a critical emergency, potentially urgent or non-urgent situation.
