Dr. Dalal Daoud is among the inaugural cohort of the Provost's Program for Black and Indigenous Postdoctoral Scholarship. Her work focuses on Islamists' interactions with ethnonational minorities in the Middle East and North Africa and analyzes the variation in ruling Islamists' treatment of the South Sudanese and Darfuris in Sudan, as well as the Kurds in Turkey. At UW, Dr. Doud will complete her book manuscript that will illustrate how governing approaches toward minorities in the MENA are an outcome of coalition building contingent on first, strategic interactions between domestic actors, and second, regional and international and international contexts.
