The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has granted this year’s Insight award to medical anthropologist, Dr. James Waldram, an alumnus of the Department of Anthropology. Dr. Waldram led a research team documenting the traditional healing practices of the Maya of Belize and the challenges associated with maintaining these practices in the today’s world. Dr. Waldram earned his BA in Anthropology at the University of Waterloo in 1978. Continuing on the path of academia, he achieved his MA at the University of Manitoba in 1980 and his PhD from the University of Connecticut in 1983. He is jointly appointed in the departments of Archaeology & Anthropology and Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Arts and Science.
